So here I am.

I have deleted my livejournal account, now that its terms of service require me to be happy with what they're doing and I'm not. I hope my friends took note of where I am now, but I honestly don't think that's the case. It's been silent here.

We'll see.

Letting go of a fantasy

I survived this last bout of the greys. I think it's over, because I don't lose my whole day into solo Minecraft games, and I'm starting to think about eating food, not just chocolate covered raisins and suckers.

I'm no longer clinging to the desperate hope that I'll make friends at the dojo. It was desperation, absolutely - but totally futile. So, that's it - I am done trying to make friends in real life. Maybe it'll happen, but that's completely out of my control, and I really don't have the time and energy to waste.

Just done.

If someone calls you with an automated message saying that your polling station has been changed, do not believe them. Check with the Elections Canada website if you have ANY doubts. 1 450 760 7746 is NOT an Elections Canada phone number.

I called my local Member of Parliament, who'd already received personally ten calls just like mine. They are going to file a formal complaint.

I'm relieved they are complaining - but that doesn't help with all the people who believed the scammer, and went all the way across town at their expense, and have to get back again and might NOT vote. Gah! I am thinking a lot of mean nasty things at the people who did this, and I really truly hope they are caught and punished enough that I think they got their just rewards.

Don't let anyone fool you. Please pass the word.

New ToS and Privacy Policy

I haven't finished reading them yet, but I will. I see that there's to be ads in Basic Journals - I don't know what they are, and have no control over what gets shown. When the option to flag journals as Mature was available, I labeled my journal as such, because I am an adult and sometimes talk about things that may be beyond what a typical 13-yr-old should be reading. In general, I consider myself sensible and not likely to discuss anything profane or illegal or any of that, but others may consider my topics to be otherwise. :P

If you haven't checked out the ToS and Privacy Policy, please consider it. So far, I don't see anything I can't accept.

In contrast, I looked at the game-app company Zynga's privacy policy and was shocked. When I tried to caution a friend about it, she suggested that Zynga feels they have the right to do what they say they have the right to do without her permission. However, they state that if you use their games, you are giving permission, and they're right. Please be comfortable with what you are agreeing to through your use of the product, because even if you haven't read it, using it means you are promising to abide by it.

Not just for people who happen to be gay...

I wore purple yesterday, in solidarity for those who are fighting for their lives against the bullying that's happening to them because they are perceived as being gay. For everyone who did wear purple, or at least thought positively about someone who's gay, thank you. I challenge you now, though, to do something more. I challenged myself, and created this essay which I am hoping to share. It is relevant to our gay members of society, yes - but it is also relevant to people with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, weight issues, etc. It should be expanded to include group situations, since I just noticed that a young man killed himself after having to listen to a community's leaders speak of being gay in a very disparaging manner. As a society, WE ARE NOT VERY NICE. And this must change.

A PostSecret question

"sometimes I wonder if anyone would care if I didn't wake up in the morning"

The truth is that yes, someone would care. I know they would.

Good Post

DBAD - Remember we're all in this together. If it's possible to help someone by doing something easy enough, do it. If someone wants to help you and it won't hinder, let them. When everyone's mood is better, even by just a bit, it's a better world to be in.

Talking about Aspergers

I'm just one person, and I have just my perspective, with the family I have and the reading I've done. So, if my view differs from yours, it's probably a difference in experience and exposure. That said, here's my thoughts.

Meme: rainbow

Your rainbow is intensely shaded blue, violet, and gray.

What is says about you: You are a tranquil person. You appreciate beauty and craftsmanship. You are patient and will keep trying to understand something until you've mastered it. You depend on modern technology and may feel uncomfortable without it.

Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

My opinion about vaccines

Having a son with Aspergers syndrome, maybe a daughter with it, maybe having it myself, isn't near the same as having a family member with low-functioning autism. However, I do feel I have a right to my opinions as long as I don't shove them down anyone's throat. With that in mind, it is in my opinion that vaccines are a good and essential thing for the community. I will discuss my thoughts, which may ramble, and I will strive to not disrespect anyone who chooses to not vaccinate.

Memories of two months ago...

We're having a petal snowstorm. :) Big pink petals are blowing off the ornamental crab apple tree, in flurries just like we'd see in wintertime. Not quite the same quantities, but it's still very lovely to see. :)

Farrah Fawcett, a part of my childhood.

"I want to be Kelly."
"No, your hair isn't long enough. You be Sabrina."
My sister, of course, was Jill, because she had the long thick flowing golden hair. My cousin was Kelly, which left me with Sabrina. It was a pretty name, and all three were beautiful and brilliant and amazing women; sure, it worked.

To enable...

Today is anti-disablism blogging day.

I want to talk about the guy I met on the bus, told me of spending twenty years in an institution where he was abused badly, but he's striving for a good strong life, and proudly tells those who call him 'retard' or whatever it was that he is a good man, he is reaching his goals, and he has the same rights everyone else has.

I want to talk about how I agree - we all have strengths, and hindrances, and we all have our burdens to overcome. For some of us, it looks like they're harder than for others.

I want to talk about a video Binsk posted elsewhere, "Lean On Me," done by an amazing range of people, and how it's great we can talk the talk about helping one another, but wouldn't it be nice if we could look harder to spot those strengths? To find a way to use them, so we all know how valuable we are, and to finally and truly learn that when we do not support, we are hindering another as surely as if we were to bully them directly...

I want to talk about how we are a community, in theory, but the truth of the matter is that a public school principal can receive a deluge of hate mail and death threats for not singing the national anthem every morning, saving it for special occasions. A fellow with MS can be jailed for intoxication because he walks funny, and his mom didn't have any idea where he was until she called the police to report him missing. A four year old can be sued to stay ONLY in his house and driveway, by three 'well meaning' moms, because they're positive autism means gun-toting murderer.

Instead, I'm going to go to bed. I'm going to hope that we can do it, one day at a time - get rid of the 'retard' word, watch as Americans discover there's a bill making it a hate crime to attack someone based on gender or disabilities, and take an extra moment before we rip out a cutting retort - is it worth it, really?

Tomorrow will be a brighter day. We can do it, together - and together is the only way it can happen.

Phish come in all shapes and colours...

Today I got a phishing email that looked like it had come from Blue Mountain Cards, return address said bubbacards.com, and the IP given was neither. Yes, I'd have *loved* to get an e-card with a tender, caring message, but I think I'll hold out for a genuine one. :P

Just be watchful; the more aware we are of what phishing looks like, the more cleverly hidden the phish are.

Good quote

"The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting.”
