I love winter. The cold hurts so much, and the dark days really drag me down, but that other part is just right. I love how everything slows down. We drive slower and walk slower in the snow. Children know instinctively that snowbanks are mountains meant to be conquered, and you'll never see a playground where the snow has *not* been played into a sleek smash. Everything sounds quieter, easier to bear. It's even a good time of year for my allergies - not a lot of mold, and even the smokers are scarce.
I'm cold. I'm even wearing a gorgeous scarf my belle-mere gave me as a shawl, and some old thick comfy socks. It's only going to get worse. Still, and always, I love winter.
